2/1-2/5

This week we continued to learn about life cycles. We read all about the life cycle of a butterfly. We also made a booklet about a butterfly’s life cycle. We learned that some newborn animals look like their parents and some do not.

We discussed our linking verbs: is, am, are, was, were. Our study of r-controlled vowels was also continued. We now know all of the r-controlled vowel sounds.

In math we began studying solid figures. Students brought in mystery bags that contained a solid figure. We also practiced sorting solid figures and plane shapes on the ActivBoard. Our class LOVES using the ActivBoard. It’s amazing how engaged they stay during ActivBoard lessons.

The biggest event of the week was our Parade of Readers Kick-Off. Our first graders put on the cutest, most rockin’ performance. We had tons of guests to get our little ones excited, and we paraded through the school for everyone to see us! Reading rocks! Our nameplates are in the hallway, and I can’t wait to see our chains grow, grow, and grow some more! A HUGE thank you goes out to all of you parents who have helped with PoR!!! I know it's going to be a very successful year.

This coming week we have Picture Day and our Valentine’s Day party on Wednesday. We will be working on our Valentine’s boxes on Monday. Students are out of school Friday (teacher in-service) and next Monday (Presidents’ Day), which results in a four-day weekend, which should result in LOTS of links!!! J
